slightly bored and severely confused

since my sister left, i have been practicing being very broke. i have tiny bits of birthday money right now, so it’s ok that i spent ~$12 on drinks last night, but really i should have been practicing hanging out with drinking people yet not drinking. maybe i shall start tonight. i have been doing quite well at eating at home, and eating lots of cheap food that needs cooking (mostly rice) rather than easy but more expensive things (like soup). i have to find out about food stamps – i have been hearing conflicting information about whether students can get them, but damn, $141 a month for food would be so helpful.
yesterday internet and television arrived at our apartment. hooray! i shall continue trying to think of things to talk about, preferably interesting ones.

(song: “sleeping in,” the postal service. sometimes i forget about this album, but then i get to rediscover it, which is fun, because it’s so good.)

  • Good luck with the food thing. Megs and I just spent $130 on groceries the other day, so I hope we can make this last a while.

I just came across an interesting story in the LA Times about this online network of librarians that you can ask questions of live via the Internet anytime of day or night. I’d link it here, but you have to log in to http://www.latimes.com, which isn’t free, but there’s this 14-day free trial thing… more work that it’s worth, but I’m sure people can track down the story if they want. It’s from Sept 9, 2004. Anyways, I thought of you, lauren, when I read about it.

  • Isn’t your birthday coming up? There should be stuff from that, no? And yes, the drinking is expensive. Drink water or tell them you’re a designated driver and get free sodas while hanging out with your pals, that way you can still be social.

    Chris: bugmenot.com is our pal!

  • Actually, the artical is off of calendarlive.com, which is some kind of company associated with the LA Times. Seems that bugmenot.com doesn’t have an entry for this one. Anyways, the artical is called “My Kingdom for an Answer” if anyone wants to search for it.

oh, i’m sorry you have no money… i could have contributed to more things than just vegetables.

do you still need a drying rack?

  • i do still need a drying rack – is there one to be had?
it’s ok – we didn’t spend *that* much money. anyway i was expecting to spend money while you were here. :)

  • meeka!

i don’t know if there is one to be had. but when notre mère asked the other day what you need for your house, that’s what i told her. as well as a kitchen timer.

    what else do you need?

  • i got a kitchen timer. it’s funny shaped like a garlic upside down.
i don’t know what else i need. there’s not much room, as you know. maybe a toaster, but i might be getting one.
