We had dinner with my dad and his wife. We went to Palais de Jade, a Chinese restaurant that is inexplicably named in French. Actually I guess it is explicable — they probably do it to sound fancy. It is a pretty all right restaurant though so I can’t blame them for trying to stand out in Reno. (There turns out to be a lot of Chinese food in Reno! Maybe it just seems that way to me because it is not cluttered with the preponderance of Thai and teriyaki we see in Seattle.) (I love Thai and teriyaki.)
I had vegetable chow fun with black bean sauce, which was wide rice noodles like you get in pad see ew (my favorite) and it also had lots of fresh veggies — mushrooms, zucchini, carrots, celery, etc., and also fermented black beans (actually soy beans) which are awesome and salty and fermenty and I love them.
