Yesterday I walked from bobspot down to the ferry terminal, which usually takes me by the Melrose Market. I like to stop in and see what is in the basket of random $2-ish cheese nubbins at Calf and Kid. Yesterday she had a few nubbins of Manchego, which I love, so I grabbed a couple [...]
We went out to the Pub, hoping to meet up with friends Rachel and Haley. We ordered our beers and our poutine hoping that they would come help us eat it, but neither of them showed — Rachel ended up having to work late, and it was Haley’s day off so she was out goofing [...]
One sirloin steak, divided in half, on the charcoal grill. Followed on the grill by grilled homegrown green beans again (mix of homegrown and Laughing Crow garlic, and homegrown cayennes), and grilled (Suyematsu Farm [B.I.]) corn on the cob. Topped the steak with a tiny pat of homemade parsley (homegrown) butter (storebought) just before serving. [...]
We went to Seattle for a bunch of stuff, culminating in a Bobby Bare Jr. show at the Sunset. Going out in the evening in Ballard means we want to go to La Carta de Oaxaca, which is SO DELICIOUS even though it’s always packed and noisy. The last couple times we’ve tried, it’s been [...]
Reuben sandwiches (again like lunch on the 5th), with grilled corn on the cob from someone at the Suyetmatsu Farm patchwork of businesses. OH MY GOD this corn was so good.
Anyway that was mostly the last of the Reubens for now. The rest of the pastrami will be sliced and frozen for future Reubens. [...]
I had a groupon that was expiring, so we went to Nijo Sushi to use it. Miso soup, avocado-tofu egg rolls, cold soba noodle salad with edamame, and an unagi-cucumber roll.
I used to make a soba salad at home pretty regularly, but I haven’t done it in a long time. I wonder why.
Cheeseburgers (see Monday, except with Beecher’s Flagship cheese). Delicious salad of homegrown cherry tomatoes, Leapfrog Farm cucumber, Laughing Crow red onion, and homegrown basil.
A Reuben sandwich. See yesterday’s lunch.
LUNCH: G.’s home-cured and -smoked pastrami (Kitsap beef)+ last August’s homemade sauerkraut (onions and cabbages grown by Laughing Crow Farm — almost out, time to make more) + homemade Russian dressing w/homemade mayonnaise (HG egg of course) + Tillamook Swiss cheese + Pane d’Amore rye bread = the most delicious Reuben ever.
DINNER: Kitsap-grown burgers [...]
G’s mom took us out to the pub. I had a braised Island-grown beef brisket sandwich, with horseradish cream, and fries.
