Today I learned where the Great Blue Herons nest on campus! The pics are kind of crappy because it turns out to be hard to take pictures of a bunch of dark blobs in a dark tree against a grey sky.

Each of those dark patches is a Great Blue Heron nest.

There were at least 12 nests, most of them either occupied or in the process of being built, with mom/dad actively swooping in with new twigs. I had no idea they nested in colonies like this, or that they would nest so far away from the water.

I learned how to spatchcock (hee!) (also known as butterfly) a chicken!

And I got some honey barbecue sauce from my internet secret santa, which was super exciting and also wonderfully delicious on my spatchcocked (hee) chicken.

Fisty’s Bog on World of Goo (Day 30)

I (and my houseguests) struggled with the Fisty’s Bog level of World of Goo a lot over the past couple of days, but I finally got it today. One thing that really helped me was building up as my first move, instead of out, as well as learning that I could put the balloons on any goo ball, not just ones on the top.

My TV isn’t quite wide enough to show both ends, but on the left, the frog is just barely cut off, and on the right, the pipe is close enough to the last point of the last triangle that it was able to get all the goo balls.

Happiness (Day 29)

So my sister is posting a happy thing every day this month, and I thought it might be fun if we traded happy for photo for one day. So we did! Although she posted a picture of a thing that makes her happy, I will not be posting a happy thing that’s represented by a photo, just a happy thing in general.

DAY TWENTY-NINE: this weekend. I had four days off and had people and dogs coming and going, and lots of delicious food, and fun hanging out, and a walk through the market, and time to sleep in and cook and knit and read books and play video games, and a trip to the library, and lots of relaxy time. Yay, this weekend!

I am totally running out of steam BUT tomorrow is the last day!

We are hosting some folks for Thanksgiving tomorrow and then we also have a couple of friends staying with us for a few days after that. We also just hit one year in this house (!). All of these things are conspiring to urge us to finish some projects that have been languishing for a while now. My sewing machine came out so I could sew some shower curtains, for example, and today G. put up the pot rack he made a couple weeks ago in welding class (which was his Xmas present from me).

The pretty garlic braid is from Laughing Crow Farm!

I missed my ferry so I stopped at the library to drop off overdue books (but I already took a picture of the library) and then I stopped at the Owl & Thistle for a super-cheap happy hour drink (well drinks are $3 including tax).

As I was leaving I panicked a bit about not having a photo yet, so I took this silly shot of the front of the bar, including the ugly ?Jameson’s? sign and the super bright light in the middle of the frame. AND the glare on the sign on the left.

Anyway I am trying to convince myself that I can post crappy pictures … NaNoWriMo is about writing whatever, whether it has a plot or not, right? So I am posting whatever, whether it’s in focus or not.

I haven’t sewn anything since before we moved, which was a year ago now. But I am making new shower curtains since we have houseguests coming and our old ones are super gross so I want to replace them. I am happy to have my sewing machine out again. I love my sewing machine.
