Apparently I post once a week now.

On Monday we had intended to have carnitas according to Matthew Amster-Burton’s Spilled Milk recipe. But G. had a lot of chores and he didn’t get it on in time. His backup plan was beans with the same seasonings, and when I got home I got inspired to huck in some other stuff.

To the storebought organic canned beans, I added some sliced Laughing Crow sweet potatoes (the skinny kind, proper sweet potatoes); a couple of diced homegrown carrots; a chunk of LC/hg garlic as usual; and a pinch of homegrown cayenne powder.

Served on storebought housemade tortillas with homemade homegrown goat queso fresco and some chopped Laughing Crow cabbage.

I have been reading about it forever, but I finally tried the “no ‘poo” baking soda and vinegar hair wash thingy. I followed this basic recipe (FYI that site crashed my Firefox for some reason, and really slowed down Chrome, and was OK but slow in Safari). So far — 9 hours in — I am a fan. I guess sometimes there is an adoption curve of a few weeks, so we’ll see how it goes, but … 1) super cheap 2) made of real things, like food ingredients, and not petroleum products 3) NO SCENT, which is great 4) so easy.

G. met me in Seattle and we had happy hour at Lecosho.
Then we walked up the hill to the movie theater and watched the 2011 version of The Thing. It was more enjoyable than we expected and better than it had any right to be, really. Also, totally unexpected female protagonist!
