and when she smiles that way at me

i love putting milk in my tea. or coffee, for that matter, but i’ve been drinking tea more lately. i only put milk and sugar in my scotland tea; everything else i drink black (? plain?) or with honey. but milk in scotland tea is fun. it makes clouds and then it swirls and then it turns a lovely brown color.

my thoughts are many miles away

blah blah blah, nothing to say, but i don’t want to do my homework. i have two 3-4 page papers due tomorrow and i haven’t started them yet. i’ve thought about them a lot, though, and 3 pages double spaced is nothing.
eugene this weekend contained a lot of alcohol, as i guess eugene usually does for me. rennie’s (heath!), buster’s, old pad, rennie’s again, sixth street. it also involved sushi with travis, who i bizarrely forgot to mention i also had coffee with, very quickly, over thanksgiving weekend; burrito boy (hooray!!) and … um … not much else, other than hanging out with commentator boys (and girl) and math boys too briefly. i wish i had more time there. there are always lots of people i want to see. next term i will have no class on fridays or mondays so maybe i’ll be able to go for a long weekend once in a while, if i plan ahead and do my homework ahead of time.
pfffft.
anyway, last thursday i wrote this post during a small field trip to the library with my class, then didn’t have a good song title and also had to run back to class so didn’t post it. but here it is, in all its reference-geek glory:
i am the biggest geek in the world.
i need to spend more time in the reference section. or maybe become a reference book geek like katie’s marcus. we are doing a class thingy right now where we just find a random reference book and look at it and then we’re going to discuss whether there is an equivalent on the web. i think they are trying to train us out of going to the internet first for all reference. fortunately i was tricky and picked on i already knew was on the internet: the ethnologue.
but!
the reference section is so cool!
there are lakota-english dictionaries, grammars of welsh and of gaelic, and a book called “a manual of european languages for librarians.” there is an an encyclopedia of fable and an encyclopedia of fantasy.
i love reference books.

been thinking a lot today
Monday, 1 December, 2003
i’m glad i discovered that the word “gargoyle” is really fun to write, because i had to write it about forty times today. i was supposed to label the photocopy order that someone else had done of this collection with photos of a bunch of gargoyles. i labeled it, then discovered the order had been done wrong, so had to do it all over and then label it again. annoying. but at least i have a new favorite word.
this weekend involved more beer drinking than the rest of the past month put together. wednesday: beer at the bagdad with sho. thursday: lots of food, but no beer. friday: christmas tree lighting with meeka, sho, and friends (matt, sam, tim); pizza with all those plus dan; beer at the bagdad with all those minus marika. saturday: visit hawthorne with sho and sam, then beer and dinner, then movie with sho and then beer again. and sunday, coffee with leigh and gordy, movie with marika, and then leaving.
it was a good weekend.
coming soon: lots of homework. group presentation on thursday. eugene on friday. yay!!
