and mess me around

Thursday, 26 February, 2004

a thing i have learned:
one should not blog when grumpy, cross, unhappy, stupid, or otherwise upset.
i tried to think of something interesting and exciting and not full of stupid self-pity and inherently selfish semi-depression, but i can’t.
and if you can’t say anything nice, etc. etc. even talking about not blogging is bad enough.
it must be bedtime for laurens.

and i may be leaving myself open

no, i’m not dead, though it’s not for school’s lack of trying. recently i have had time to go to the gym (sometimes), go to a show (but leave early), and have a good valentine’s day weekend, but that is about it. this whole traveling-every-other-weekend setup is making me reevaluate my homework policy, which has previously consisted mainly of procrastination and laziness, and i have started getting things done ahead of time (!), but this weekend i had to check out a laptop from the ischool so i could get some work done in the car. it was mostly some ui design, so i was sitting in the car with the laptop writing html, and i felt very grown-up. this happens less and less now that i am surrounded by adults with partners and children and homes and careers that they left to come back to school, and who i feel must think i’m a silly little kid who knows nothing about the world. which is potentially true.
also adding to “where the hell did my time go” syndrome are the fact that i now have three students, two of whom i meet downtown for tutoring, so i have 40 minutes to an hour of bus time twice a week to meet with them, and the fact that i am trying to stop eating crap food and eating out, so i have to, you know, take time to cook stuff that’s not ramen. i bought an eggplant the other day at the market. it was so shiny and purple, i just couldn’t resist. i think i will make eggplant parmesan tonight.

you are not my typewriter

ew, i just dripped peanut butter and nutella from my lovely sandwich onto my pajama pants. that looks charming, i’m sure. must launder immediately.
but oh, the forsytes! i guess laundering will have to wait ’til it’s over, or until adult swim which at least has commercials.
i finally went to the gym today. treadmills are weird to get used to. i was kind of dizzy and confused when i got off and nothing was moving anymore. but now i will make myself go there instead of putting off running because of cold or dark.
this weekend i made the sewing machine stop working! i don’t think it’s actually broken, but i do think it needs to be cleaned and oiled. i was almost done with my first real project when it stopped working, so was quite frustrated, but i finished it by hand. unfortunately i am not very smart and i sewed the straps on the bag wrong. when the machine gets fixed i will put them back on right.
other crafty things are happening but they are for discussion once i find out if they actually work or not. but they are very exciting!

it’s gonna be a drag

so many things that i have forgotten to blog about!
1. we got a facsimile of the lindisfarne gospels! i am super excited. and, when it came, i was the first person other than sandy the book arts/rare books librarian who got to see it! it is amazingly beautiful. i want to be a rare books librarian too!
(if you want to see it, just make an appointment with special collections to have it brought out of the vault for you. but archives and preservation club will probably do an event involving it and the book of kells.)
2. i walked through an alley on the way to tutoring on wednesday. i like alleys (when they aren’t scary). they feel like something secret. this one was painted pink, which was pleasant. also when i emerged i discovered a thing i had never seen before: a chai bar. i shall have to try it sometime.
3. shannon says i should blog about where her keys are.
4. we met some turkish boys at the bar. all we told them was our first names and that we are in library school, and then one of them emailed shan. how? this is weird. also, this always happens to shan and not to me.
5. i went to the craft store today. it was very exciting. on the way there i saw My Favorite Professor trent hill on the bus. yay trent!
6. um. there was something else that was really interesting but i have forgotten it now.

there’s things i remember and things i forget

i was going to go running but i can’t find one of my sports bras so i can’t. i’m eating some chocolate instead. good trade-off, yes? the new plan is to do my homework now and go to the gym (!) tomorrow night.
in the meantime, here is a list of things one can do with an unexpected weekend to oneself in seattle:

  • clean
  • do dishes
  • do laundry
  • finish the frickin sweater already!
  • sew some things
  • be a giant geek and build a database and write queries by hand in sql for fun
  • mope
  • go running a lot
  • prepare for a new french tutoring student (does the word “tutee” actually exist?)
  • pay the bills
  • sew some more things
  • stay in one’s pajamas all day
  • not shave one’s legs for a whole nother week
  • mope some more
  • play animal crossing on the gamecube, which is being held hostage! ha!
  • … oh yeah, and homework.

    how to unfold your love

    Monday, 2 February, 2004

according to president match, kucinich and i are best pals at 100%, then kerry at 92% and sharpton at 90%. hmm … they are all so electable, i wonder how i will decide between them?
    pfffffft.
bush only got 6%! i’m surprised it was that much.
yep, still only half-assedly doing my homework!

(song: “while my guitar gently weeps,” the beatles, woo george!)

    before you go …

i just found out that my name can be rearranged to spell “unreal”! hooray!
i’m apparently not doing my homework.
nothing of note has happened lately. last week was full of homework and misery and a dead (o)possum on the way to school two days in a row. and not enough running. friday night i sat around, which was good, or maybe i did something which i have forgotten about. saturday went to the market and then had some drinks with nic and shan (newly updated! finally!) and unexpectedly with sj and pete. shan and i scared poor sho by singing things from les misérables really loudly. then i think there was an alien abduction. we both woke up at 3:45 and didn’t remember falling asleep. kind of creepy.
now i am really supposed to be finishing a paper because it’s due tomorrow morning.
    i don’t want to!!
