On Saturday we did the farm‘s first CSA delivery of pork and chicken to Seattle and Bainbridge Island. We spent the night on the island and had some happy hour snacks at Hitchcock, then we went back to the house and cooked up some frozen Beecher’s mac & smoked cheese.
On Saturday I was reminded [...]
Turkey club sandwich! Heyday turkey breast from last fall, roasted with homegrown herbs; homegrown, home-cured and -smoked bacon; Butler Green tomatoes (!); homegrown lettuce; homemade mayo from fresh homegrown egg; Udi’s white sandwich bread (we are doing a gluten-free experiment at our house).
Also an artichoke! Which I grew! Served with more of the homemade [...]
We processed chickens last weekend and on Sunday night we did a simple salt-and-pepper, butter-basted roast chicken (425º until done). Today G. fried up some homegrown, homecured bacon, then warmed slices of the Sunday chicken breast in the same pan after draining it (pan, not breast). Layered onto Macrina herb buns with just-picked garden tomato, [...]
I thought of something new that we have never had for dinner before! It was BAKED POTATOES WITH STUFF. I had to call Betsey (the Laughing Crow farmer) to verify which variety of potato would be best baked, and she said Snowflake. It turned out to be extremely delicious baked and then served with homemade [...]
G. made spaghetti carbonara with some storebought organic bacon, homegrown duck eggs, the usual Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, and the usual storebought Barilla pasta. Also salad.
We went to pub trivia and so we got home late and I was sad and cranky. I had some horrible nacho cheese Doritos at trivia. When we got home G. made me a turkey club sandwich, with leftover homegrown turkey obviously, home-cured Island-grown bacon, another Kittitas Greenhouse tomato, some Butler Green Farms salad mix, [...]
Friend Anne’s Kentucky Hot Brown. Except we used gravy instead of making cheese sauce, because we were super lazy. This may invalidate the whole thing but I don’t care because it was delicious all the same.
Homegrown turkey. Macrina bread. Kittitas Greenhouse tomato. Home-cured and -smoked bacon. Homemade gravy of turkey drippings and Utah organic [...]
Spaghetti carbonara, G.-style (i.e. bastardized, I’m pretty sure): fry up bacon nubbins (home-cured, Island grown). Boil pasta (storebought organic). Grate a mess of parmigiano cheese and beat in a few eggs (homegrown) — I like at least three for a pound of pasta. As soon as the pasta is done and drained, add the cheese-egg [...]
