Halal chicken with rice. I used a whole (hg, of course) chicken, parted out — drumsticks, thighs, and breasts all separated. It took longer to cook than I thought. Otherwise I did everything according to the recipe and/or my previous post. It was extremely delicious.

What I had for dinner on Friday, December 30, 2011

No real plan for dinner tonight, so when we got home at about 5:30, bringing G. home from his doctor appointment/procedure thing in the city, I looked at what we had, and set about preparing enchiladas. Since we noted last time that we would like to put more stuff in them, and since we had [...]

Leftover tortilla soup. Yum.

What I had for dinner on Saturday, December 24, 2011

What I had for Solstice dinner, Thursday, December 22, 2011

For Solstice we like to hunker down and stay warm all day and celebrate that life is returning to the world, and appreciate our tiny role in the life of the growing things. Usually we eat pretty close to home — where, for us, “close to home” means “from the backyard.”

We took two chickens out of the freezer because the freezer was full and overwhelming and scary. We didn’t end up meeting in Seattle, so G. [...]

What I had for dinner on Friday, December 9, 2011

More pozole! This time with chicken meat (homegrown) and turkey stock (homegrown), and instead of the canned storebought hominy that made me sad last time, we had dried blue corn hominy from Los Chileros de Nuevo Mexico — it was “all natural,” you know, so … uh … that means nothing.

Anyway, though, because we [...]

What I had for dinner on Thursday, December 8, 2011

A new thing!! A delicious thing: “halal-cart-style chicken and rice with white sauce.”

I have never had such a thing in my life — Seattle is not big on food carts yet, and the ones we do have are more likely to be gourmet than ethnic. But on eating this, we instantly started making plans [...]

What I had for dinner on Friday, October 7, 2011

I worked from home and got cranky and sad, so when G. got home from welding college, we went out looking for a place to go to get me out of the house and hang out for a while with a book and/or knitting so I could recalibrate. The Pub was too crowded so we [...]

What I had for dinner on Wednesday, September 28, 2011

Homegrown chicken, fried!! after having steeped in an organic (storebought) buttermilk brine, then rolled in organic whole-wheat flour with salt, pepper, and paprika. Coleslaw made of homegrown purple cabbage, Nash’s carrots, and homemade mayonnaise made from homegrown yolk and storebought organic olive & canola oils. Sweet corn from the farmstand, on the grill.
