We had date night before dinner. G. is off booze for a while because of a seizure due to a drug interaction + fatigue/exertion + dehydration, so we went out for ice cream instead. I had a double scoop with one scoop of sabayon (marsala custard) and one of blackberry, which is kind of what [...]
We were tired and cranky from the trip and from the long day of travel the day before. We had a storebought imported chorizo (the hard Spanish kind, not the soft Central/South American kind) so we made patatas a la riojana with Laughing Crow potatoes and no onion.
We left Reno in the early afternoon and drove over Donner Pass to Davis, to visit my old college roommate Phoebe. We had brought a chicken to Reno with us, hoping to cook it with my dad or with P. & J., but neither of those worked out, so we brought it to Phoebe’s house. [...]
Patatas a la riojana — homemade this time, as opposed to the other day. Made with Laughing Crow potatoes and grocery store chorizo instead of the one we usually get at DeLaurenti. The DeLaurenti version is better but this was plenty delicious.
Chef Boyardee-inspired dinner! Ravioli from the ravioli bee we had, oh dear, over a year ago. We all swapped flavors at the end of it and this week I found a bag of friends Craig and Alice‘s meat ravioli in our freezer. I also made a sauce with the usual suspects — Paulson Farms tomatoes, [...]
Yet another super-plan-ahead meal of pasta with tomato sauce, prepared mostly in September.
G. felt ill* all day so we had super-easy comfort food: pasta (storebought) with sauce made of dehydrated Laughing Crow onions, homegrown/LC garlic, a quart of home-canned island-grown Paulson Farms tomatoes, and garlic sausage homemade with island-grown pork, Laughing Crow garlic, and Bainbridge Island Farms wine.
* I have been reading A Midwife’s Tale. She [...]
Goulash/paprikas thing with sauerkraut and sour cream.
Kitsap-grown ground beef; Laughing Crow onion that we sweated and then froze in bags; Laughing Crow cabbage and onions in homemade sauerkraut; some storebought spices (mostly paprika); homegrown homemade goat sour cream. Served over spaetzle made with homegrown eggs and goat milk, and storebought organic flour. Thanks again, [...]
More chili dogs, because there were still hot dogs.
Yesterday’s chili served on Country Natural Beef (formerly Oregon Country Beef) hot dogs on Rudi’s organic hot dog buns with no High Fructose Corn Syrup. Also I grated some more of my homemade homegrown goat feta on top.
I had quite an adventure finding HFCS-free buns. A couple of months ago I could [...]
