We have had three lovely evenings (and a lunch) of eating out with G’s dad and stepmom, who are visiting us and the PNW. For dinner, we had a chef’s tasting at Hitchcock on Friday, which was amazing as usual; a very pleasant sushi dinner at Shima Sushi on Saturday; and then back at Hitchcock [...]
Fried homegrown chicken breasts, wings, and drumsticks. Marinated overnight in faux buttermilk made from homegrown goat milk + lemon juice, salt, pepper, a bit of cayenne, paprika, and homegrown garlic, then fried today after tossing in seasoned (S&P, paprika) flour.
Plus delicious biscuits (more faux goat buttermilk, plus regular biscuit things like flour, baking soda, [...]
A homegrown pork steak! Pan-seared and then -roasted, and topped with homemade red pepper jelly made from Betsey’s (Laughing Crow’s) red peppers. Also served with oven fries made with LC potatoes and LC/hg garlic, and salad (source unknown?? I did not write it down in my notes) with Pike Place Market radishes and homegrown green [...]
Roast beef sandwiches! Made from the prime rib roast from Tuesday, sliced on our new meat slicer which is somewhat inexplicably available at Zappos, and which is cheap but awesome. With Tillamook cheddar cheese and some random storebought horseradish, on Macrina herb rolls. (I didn’t check the ingredients until I got home, but the herbs [...]
G. made spaghetti carbonara with some storebought organic bacon, homegrown duck eggs, the usual Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, and the usual storebought Barilla pasta. Also salad.
Chef Boyardee-inspired dinner! Ravioli from the ravioli bee we had, oh dear, over a year ago. We all swapped flavors at the end of it and this week I found a bag of friends Craig and Alice‘s meat ravioli in our freezer. I also made a sauce with the usual suspects — Paulson Farms tomatoes, [...]
G. made chili with Kitsap-grown ground beef, home-canned Paulson Farms tomatoes, dehydrated LC onions, hg/LC garlic, and Alvarez Farm pinto beans. We spooned it over Country Natural Beef hot dogs on Rudi’s whole wheat hot dog buns, with Tillamook cheddar grated on top. Chili cheese dogs!
We also remembered to have a giant salad! From [...]
I spent all day in the city for a Washington Young Farmers organizers planning meeting, potluck, and then general meeting. Both meetings were great and I left feeling really energetic and good about the next year. Which was good, because G. and I had also arranged to meet downtown afterwards to plan the agenda for [...]
We got home kind of late, so we ordered a pizza and salad. I made homemade dressing with home-fermented apple cider vinegar, and added a few chunks of homemade homegrown goat feta to my salad.
