The first of likely many iterations of ground beef and sauerkraut soup!
We had a bad (mean, misbehaved) cow who went to freezer camp, resulting in at least 100 lbs of ground beef, and I also accidentally made like 3 gallons of sauerkraut (from Laughing Crow cabbage and onions) this year. So this winter will be [...]
Today I learned that pho restaurants can package your pho for takeout, with all the various things in different compartments, and even with little packets of hoisin and sriracha.
Actually I learned this in theory last Tuesday when I had lunch (pho, but we ate in) with friend Amy. I mentioned that I was sad [...]
I brought home one of the pork steaks I got at the farmers’ market, frozen and well-wrapped in my carry-on luggage. We cooked it up and turned it into pozole with storebought non-organic hominy, Island-grown home-canned tomatoes, some dried Laughing Crow onion, and storebought non-organic canned chipotles in adobo. Served with Laughing Crow cabbage and [...]

I made magically delicious soup! with homemade Italian sausage, homegrown kale and carrot, leek from the one place at Pike Place Market whose name [...]
Leftover black bean, ham, and parsnip soup.
Random stuff in the fridge included a bunch of home-cured, home-smoked sliced ham from an island-grown pig (though not ours). G. suggested it might go in a bean soup. I noted that we had no carrots, but a whole bunch of storebought parsnips, then went upstairs to get some stuff done.
A couple hours later, [...]
Leftovers: pasta, soup etc.
